With the fresh energy of 2014 we celebrate the Pantone Color of the Year: PANTONE 18-3224 Radiant Orchid. Putting the elegant color choice into words, Leatrice Eiseman of the Pantone Color Institute® announced on December 5, 2013, “While the 2013 color of the year, PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald, served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity, Radiant Orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination.”
“Spruce up interior spaces by incorporating this eye-catching hue in paint, accent pieces and accessories,” Pantone’s press release describes. “As adaptable as it is beautiful, Radiant Orchid complements olive and deeper hunter greens, and offers a gorgeous combination when paired with turquoise, teal and even light yellows.” As suggested, Parvez Taj places the Radiant Orchid color alongside an olive shade of green in his Dreamhaven print.
Shades of purple have long been known to possess a novel and expressive energy, prompting us to think outside of the box. An example of this is Areaware’s Sheba Inu mini cushion, which not only isn’t a square or rectangle like most pillows, but rather is shaped to the dog’s outline. Or as Eiseman continued in the Color of the Year press release, “An invitation to innovation, Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today’s society.”
Each year the Pantone Color of the Year finds a way to filter into our world in unforeseen ways. It’s easier to find its presence in fashion and beauty - with nail polish shades and award show gowns aplenty - but in the Interiors scene, Radiant Orchid will shine in a less aggressive manner.
“Likewise the vibrant color is sure to liven up neutrals including gray, beige and taupe. Uplifting and bold without being overpowering, Radiant Orchid re-energizes almost any color palette and provides a unifying element for diverse spaces.” In celebration of the Pantone Color of the Year for 2014, how will you infuse creativity into your home?
