      Trend: Suiting Up in Steel

      Infrastructure to Furniture Design

Upwards of 1.3 billion tons of the metal alloy we call “steel” are produced annually to build our homes, our workplaces, the cars we drive, the ships we sail, and the some of the furnishings we adore. While it can seem like a formidable material to bring into a home (especially when compared to anything made with inexpensive wood composite) it is as indestructible as a fireproof Mosler safe. That said, we’d like to present the latest in steel manufacturing to be launched this month at Dwell on Design: Rypen’s very own Steel Foundation desk line!

Spice it Up with Powder-Coated Color

Similar to our Steel Foundation desk, other furniture designers are using steel to accompany their wooden tabletops as its base. Take the Elko credenza by Eastvold or the ARS tall table by ARTLESS as prime examples. Each one is the result of longevity-driven collaborations of wood and steel that also include a smattering of powder-coated finishes to change things up.

Don’t be afraid to buck today’s system of disposable furniture with a piece that acts as a modern “heirloom” work of art. Our Steel Foundation desk is just one example of steel furniture that is built to last – in both form and function – for centuries to come.
