      Modern Majority: Upholstered Beds

Upholstered Beds and Modern Bedroom Furniture

      Wood + Fabric

The same population of people who don’t understand why a duvet cover would go on top of a comforter probably wonder why on earth we’d appreciate upholstery on a bed frame. While I’d venture to say their grandmother had them sitting on plastic couch covers – and never experiencing the trust we put into our durable, comfortable furnishings – our modern world of interiors is different. Upholstered beds are all the rage these days in combinations of wood with canvas or linen coverings in a wide variety of styles.

      Softening the Sleep Vessel

The Punt Bed by Brendan Ravenhill uses White Oak wood (or custom wood), brass and the option of linen upholstery fastened to its slightly reclined headboard. Using straps and brass buckles (as shown), the soft covering makes late-night movie watching a given. Handmade and designed in Los Angeles, CA, Ravenhill used the idea of a simple wooden "punt" boat from New England to create the plank and frame construction. For an entire bedroom ensemble, consider the addition of his coordinating Punt Side Table. You'll most likely not regret it.
