Combining material simplicity with a decadent aesthetic, the Tropique Collection comprises two dining chairs and a dining table. The frame of each piece is made from stainless steel rods, incorporating a distinctive statement curve at the feet – a signature of Matégot’s style and a feature that unites the collection into a clear and cohesive whole.
- Created in the 1950s by the Hungarian-born French master of postwar design, Mathieu Matégot, the Tropique Collection of outdoor furniture captures the timeless glamour and exotic luxury of outdoor living on the Côte d'Azur in the mid-20th century.
- One of Mathieu Matégot's favorite of his own designs – chosen to furnish his own apartment – Tropique embodies the lightness and leisure of outdoor living.
- Available in either black or white, the frames of the Tropique Dining Chair – and the companion Tropique Dining Table – are formed from slender stainless steel rods, with a characteristic curve at each of the four feet, echoing the arc of the armrests.
- The elegant Leslie jacquard fabric was developed exclusively for GUBI, made especially for outdoor use and GreenGuard-certified, comfortably flexible while being durable and sun-resistant – crafted to last through many seasons in the sun.
- In addition to the solid-color upholstery options in smooth, natural-toned white or beige, GUBI has introduced two new colorways.
- Evocative of Capri restaurant terraces and clifftop Riviera cafés, the new designs are characterized by wide, nautically inspired stripes in either white and orange, or white and blue.
- Specially developed to evoke the easygoing coastal lifestyle of the Mediterranean summer, these sun-kissed colors and summery stripes give the Tropique Dining Chairs a new and engaging alfresco energy.
- The option of adding tasseled fringes to the arms, seat, and backrest introduces a note of playfulness perfectly in keeping with the design’s laidback poolside character.
- Fixed in placed with a pin mechanism under the armrest, the fabric can for removed, cleaned, and replaced.
- Hung in a hammock-like manner across the frame, the textile seat responds to the contours of the body.
- The backrest is padded with foam and a loose pillow added to the seat ensures optimal comfort.
